Taylor Swift Sells Out Gillette Stadium in Minutes

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 5 - 2009

Country music fans wanting to get tickets to see Taylor Swift in Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium snatched up all the tickets as of 2 pm on December 5, 2009. Swift, who is the CMA’s 2009 Entertainer of the Year, will be performing at Gillette Stadium, the home of the NFL’s New England Patriots, June 4, 2010. Country superstar and former American Idol winner Kellie Pickler will perform with Taylor Swift.

In a call into Ticketmaster.com, official seller for Taylor Swift’s Gillette Stadium concert to check on ticket availability for the Taylor Swift show, the availability changed from single tickets only being available to no more tickets available. The concerts of Taylor Swift have had a tendency of selling out within 15 minutes, so only those who were able to act fast were able to buy tickets to see Swift at Gillette Stadium in concert on her Fearless Tour.

Swift will be following the same path as other CMA Entertainers of the Year who have performed at Gillette Stadium such as Kenny Chesney. According to Ticketmaster, tickets for Swift’s Gillette Stadium concert sold for $74.75, $59.75 and $34.75, along with a convenience charge and a limit of six tickets per household.

Selling out a concert for country music in New England is surprising in some ways. After all New Englanders are as faithful to their classic rock as they are to their sports teams. However, a talented and young artist such as Taylor Swift has been able to prove that crossover is not only possible but also sustainable. Unlike K.D. Lang, one of Swift’s country predecessors who was only able to crossover with a single pop hit, the appeal of Taylor Swift isn’t limited strictly to fans of country music.

The nineteen year old Swift so far has managed to keep up an image that is squeaky clean, unlike some other young pop queens like Adrienne Bailon and Miley Cyrus.

Currently there has been no second date announced for a concert at Gillette Stadium. The only date that is currently not sold out left on Swift’s concert tour is her April 29, 2009 concert in Lexington, Kentucky. Tickets will go on sale for the concert on December 11, 2009. Her concert in Baton Rouge, LA on May 20, 2009 still has tickets available.

Taylor Swift Bikini Video Racing Across the Web

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 4 - 2009

The new music video of Taylor Swift, which features the country music star in a black bikini that is barely there, is taking YouTube by storm.

In a video which is family friendly, the nineteen year old singing sensation is shown with friends on the beach, hanging out in the car and kitchen and enjoying the great outdoors. Since being posted on Sunday, the video has accumulated over 7.5 million views.

As the amateur footage of almost four minutes unfolds, the bonus track “I’m Only Me When I’m with You” from Swift’s album is heard playing in the background.

Kellie Picker, former American Idol contestant, appears as part of the crew of Swift’s girlfriends.

Extended footage of Swift, who is typically dressed very conservatively, showing off her hot bikini body while jet skiing, on the beach, and getting soaked from a waterfall has hit the web as well.

On Wednesday the stage was set by Swift in a showdown for Grammys with the singer Beyonce. Beyonce earned ten Grammy nominations while Swift earned eight.

Taylor Swift Snags 8 Grammy Nominations

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 3 - 2009

When the Grammy Award candidates were announced on December 2 for their 52nd Annual Awards show during a music special televised live from Los Angeles at Club Nokia, Taylor Swift received eight Grammy Award nominations. Only Beyonce had more with her ten nominations.

What was significant was that Swift was nominated in three three different top categories that represent different musical genres.

Swift’s latest album, Fearless, has been nominated as Overall Album of Year. The category also includes Big Whiskey & the Groogux King by the Dave Matthews Band, The Fame by Lady Gaga, The E.N.D. By Black Eyed Peas and I Am… Sasha Fierce by Beyonce.

“You Belong With Me,” a track from the Fearless album, has been nominated for Record of Year, and is going up against “Halo” by Beyonce, “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, and “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon.

“You Belong With Me,” written by Swift along with Liz Rose, has been nominated for Song of Year, along with “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell, “Single Ladies” by Beyonce and “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon.

In addition, Swift’s album Fearless has been nominated as Best Country Album, while “You Belong With Me” has been nominated for Best Pop Female Performance. Swift and Rose’s “White Horse,” has been nominated as Best Country Song. The album track also earned a nomination for Swift for Best Female Vocal Performance. “Breathe,” another track from Swift’s Fearless album also earned a nomination for Swift and Colbie Caillat in the category Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

After realizing that she had earned eight nominations Swift said, I was freaking out. I started to jump up and down and freak out, Swift said when speaking to The Associated Press. Honestly I never could have predicted getting eight nominations. I am blown away, ecstatic and very thankful.

Swift added, it’s the ultimate honor for the Grammys to recognize me. All that I know is when I write in my journal about this tonight it’s going to be all in capital letters as well as underlined four times with lots of exclamation points. I never imagined I would get to write in my journal about this.

When asked about the possibility of winning her very first Grammy Award, Swift replied, the thought of winning is something you absolutely daydream about.

The only country singers that were featured in the telecast were Dwight Yoakam and Sugarland. The only country category announced on the air that night was Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Yoakam announced the nominees, which included “It Happens,” by Sugarland, “Cowgirls Don’t Cry,” by Brooks & Dunn, “I Run to You,” by Lady Antebellum, “Here Comes Goodbye,” from the group Rascal Flatts and “Chicken Fried,” by the Zac Brown Band.

Sugarland performed a holiday song “Coming Home” from their album Gold and Green in a segment of the show outside of Club Nokia.

When the telecast’s host LL Cool J asked Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland about their nomination, Jennifer Nettles replied that the biggest night of all in music was the Grammys. When we win country music awards it is a very big honor, but to be nominated for Grammys- that is nice.

Although Swift didn’t attend the Grammy nominations concert, she did still manage to garner a lot of attention. The opening performance by LL Cool J mentioned her. It’s also clear that there is at least one legend of music that has not forgotten Kayne West interrupting Swift’s acceptance speech during MTV’s Video Music Awards.

Ringo Star and Smokey Robinson announced Swift’s “You Belong With Me,” had been nominated as Record of the Year. Robinson joked and said, Taylor don’t worry, Kayne West isn’t here.

The Grammy Awards 52nd annual show will take place in Los Angeles at Staples Center on January 31.

Taylor Swift Takes on Greeting Cards

Posted by Janice Bryant On November - 18 - 2009

Critics often complain that the lyrics of Taylor Swift are corny like greeting cards. It appears the greeting card business agrees.

American Greetings Corporation and the teen country music star have made a deal where Swift will be creating a line of greeting cards and related products.

Zev Weiss, CEO of American Greetings Corporation, said that the abilities of the singer as a songwriter and storyteller make her a good fit for creating cards to appeal to a very broad audience. One has to wonder, however, if they are aware of her tendency for breaking her inspirational lyrics up with nasty ones that are aimed at boys who have rejected her.

The company based in Cleveland will begin to distribute Swift’s cards, stationary, gift wrap and online greetings beginning this spring.

In a statement issued by Swift she characterized the opportunity for writing and designing greeting cards to be a wonderful experience.

Swift last week was named Entertainer of the Year at the 2009 Country Music Association awards.

Taylor Swift is Entertainer of the Year

Posted by Janice Bryant On November - 12 - 2009

Taylor Swift’s opener for the Country Music Association Awards show on Wednesday was a winning performance. However, the 19 year old country singer had to wait for the end of the telecast to receive her biggest award as Entertainer of the Year.

Swift, the youngest singer to ever win the top trophy for the CMA, sobbed on her way to the Sommet Center stage in Nashville and called on her band to join her up onstage.

She said, I won’t ever forget this moment. This moment everything that I have wanted just happened for me.

The night was monumental for Swift. She received a total of four awards. They included Album of the Year (Fearless) and Female Vocalist of the Year, upsetting the co-host for the night, Carrie Underwood.

Although Underwood got shut out Brad Paisley, her co-host, had a very good night, winning his third Male Vocalist of the Year in a row. Sugarland also won their third Vocal Duo award in three years as well.

Another early winner for the night was Lady Antebellum. The group’s single “I Run to You,” was awarded Single of the Year. The trio also won Vocal Group of the Year, ending Rascal Flatts winning streak of six years in the category.

Charles Kelley very graciously paid tribute to Rascal Flatts during his acceptance speech, saying the band had been an inspiration of theirs for a long time.

The country community gave Darius Rucker, the crossover artist, a very warm welcome with the New Artist of the Year award. Last year the award went to Lady Antebellum. Rucker, after his long acknowledgements list, recognized the audience. He thanked the fans for accepting him.

The telecast was performance heavy, with rock stars such as Kid Rock and Dave Matthews teaming with Janey Johnson and Kenny Chesney. The evening was launched by Swift with a very spirited rendition of her hit “Forever and Always,” a song about stormy relationships.

Her performance appeared to be a nod to all the feverish attention that has been paid recently to her dating. Swift has been linked with Joe Jonas and recently Taylor Lautner. A taped interview started her performance that was between Swift and Nancy O’Dell of Access Hollywood.

In the taped interview Swift quipped that guys who don’t want me writing bad songs concerning them should not do bad things. The action then cut back to the stage. Swift slid down a pole, threw furniture and wildly tossed her hair.

Paisely and Underwood anchored the three hour long telecast, bringing the proceedings a sense of humor. Several times they poked fun at Kayne West through songs and also ribbed each other constantly throughout the entire show.

Taylor Claims Longest Charting Album of Century

Posted by Janice Bryant On November - 2 - 2009

At only nineteen years old Taylor Swift, country music superstar, is continuing to shatter records. This week it is Billboard’s albums chart. “Taylor Swift,” her debut album, became this century’s longest charting album.

This week the self-titled debut of Swift will have spent 157 total weeks on the albums chart and becomes the album that has spent the most weeks on the Top 200 Billboard Albums. “All the Right Reasons,” the 2005 album from Nickelback, previously held the record at 156 weeks.

October 2006 was the release date of Swift’s debut album. To date it has sold more than 4 million copies. Her album “Fearless,” which was re-released last week as Platinum Edition and includes “Jump, Then Fall,” a new single as well as “Untouchable” has sold 4 million copies as well.

In addition, Swift will be joining a very short list of stars including Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears to perform as well as host “Saturday Night Live.” On November 7th, Swift will perform double duties and will become only the second woman country singer to do that since Dolly Parton did it more than twenty years ago.

Taylor Swift Tickets Sell Out 15 Tour Dates in Minutes

Posted by Janice Bryant On October - 23 - 2009

Tickets for four of Taylor Swift’s tour dates for 2010 sold out just two minutes after they went on sale Friday, according to Swift’s publicists.

All of the tickets that were released Friday for the 15 U.S. shows for Swift’s 2010 Fearless tour all sold out within minutes. According to her representatives, the fastest tickets to go were the four shows that are taking place in New York.

Swift, who in 2008 was the top selling artist in the U.S., will have 37 shows in 2010 in Canada and the United States as well as seven shows in Australia beginning in February.

The teenage singing star, whose hit songs include “Love Story” and “You Belong with Me,” has seen a rise in her popularity since Kayne West interrupted her acceptance speech in September at the MTV Video Music Awards where she won for best music video. West proclaimed that Beyonce should have won instead.

Earlier this month Swift received six American Music Award nominations. On November 7 she will host as well as perform on “Saturday Night Live.”

By contrast, West has canceled a concert tour that was planned for Canada and the U.S. earlier this month. He was also the victim of a death hoax over the Internet earlier in the week when there were false claims that West had died in an automobile accident in Los Angeles.

Swift Racks Up 6 AMA Nominations

Posted by Janice Bryant On October - 16 - 2009

It is never too late to earn some more recognition, at least if you are Michael Jackson. The late pop star could end up being honored as the posthumous Artist of the Year from the American Music Awards.

Fans get to vote online with the winner set to be announced on November 22 in Los Angeles at the awards show.

It might seem like the King of Pop would have it locked up, but he is going up against some pretty tough competition. Taylor Swift, Kings of Leon, Eminem and Lady Gaga have also been nominated for the award.

Jackson has five nominations in total, and Eminem has four. However Taylor Swift, country music’s sweetheart, leads everyone with six nominations including favorite female pop artist, favorite female country artist and artist of the year.

Hopefully Kanye West will sit it out this time.

Taylor Swift to Host Saturday Night Live

Posted by Janice Bryant On October - 15 - 2009

Next month when she is the host of “Saturday Night Live” the stage will be all Taylor Swift’s- without any interruptions.

There is only one question: who is going to play Kayne West’s role?

Last month West disrupted the acceptance speech of Swift, who became only the first country star ever to win the MTV Video Music Award for best female video. West grabbed Swift’s microphone and then declared “Single Ladies”, Beyonce’s video, as one of the very best videos ever.

Swift said she had been thinking over ideas for skits for a very long time. Over the last few months some pretty hilarious things definitely have been happening to me that will make some really substantial skits.

As far as getting the opportunity to host Saturday Night Live on November 7, Swift referred to it as mind blowing. She said that it had been hard keeping it a secret ever since she had been asked by producers over the summer and added that she had really loved the experience when she had been a musical guest in January. When she hosts the show she will perform again.

Swift said that she loved being around the kind of people who feel she has a different type of creative genius. Funny geniuses are very fascinating to be around.

Taylor Swift will join Janet Jackson, Sting and Justin Timberlake among others who in the past on the show have pulled double duty.

Just like Justin Timberlake did, Swift hopes to be able to collaborate with Andy Samberg, cast member of Saturday Night Live, on a music video.

Swift said she had been a fan forever, but did go back and rewatch it all over again over the last couple of months. It would be a lot of fun to do digital shorts. They have done them so well and Andy Samberg is absolutely hilarious.

Swift, in addition to preparing for her stint on SNL, is also completing the first part of the tour for “Fearless” this weekend. On October 27 Swift will be performing on the show “Dancing With the Stars.”

Her album “Fearless” has sold over 4 million copies. Swift has now sold over 10 million albums in her career and over 20 million in paid song downloads.

In addition Taylor has four CMA Award nominations, which include Entertainer of the Year. She is the youngest artist ever to have had that honor. Swift has had two No. 1 songs in a row hit the pop charts and five singles make it to No.1 on the country charts.
