Taylor Swift Focuses on Boys & Love on Third Album

Posted by Justine Morgan On May - 9 - 2010

Are you having a hard time waiting for the new album from Taylor Swift?  Finally the long-awaited follow up set to Fearless from 2008 is on its way.  Taylor can’t wait for the album to come out either.  If you enjoyed rocking out  to Fearless, there’s a good chance you will like her new material.  Almost two years since her last album, Taylor still has love and boys on the brain.

At Time’s 100 Gala, Taylor told a report from MTV News that the new album was going great.  She was at the event to be honored as one of the magazines “most influential people of the year.”  Swift said, for the past two years I’ve been writing.  This summer we will put the finishing touches on and get into the studio to record the last few songs.

When Taylor was asked what had inspired the album she replied, love and boys of course.

In terms of her songwriting process, Taylor back in November told MTV News that she writes constantly about what she is going through while it is happening.  I try to not get too back logged so I don’t need to go back.  All the time, I’m recording.  I have lots of songs.

Swift continued, when I record an album I like thinking when people end up listening to the set it’s sort of like a diary detailing what I’ve been going through over the past two years.  It’s a fun way of expressing how I feel as well as what I am going through.

In terms of collaborations, if Swift had her way there’s one rocker in particular that would be on the list.  The songstress of “You Belong with Me,” in an earlier interview said, Jack White.  He is awesome.  I really do love his style.  His writing is what I really love, and he’s also an amazing player.  Any type of collaboration with him would be awesome.

As of now, there’s no word if Jack White is going to show up again.

Taylor Swift Contributes $50K to Nashville Flood Relief

Posted by Justine Morgan On May - 7 - 2010

Taylor Swift has pledged to donate $500,000 to help Nashville flooding victims.  It was announced on “Flood Relief with Vince Gills and Friends,” a local TV telethon in Nashville, according to the Associated Press.

Swift said in an email to AP, I was home while the storm was going on.  I couldn’t believe what happened to Nashville and people that I dearly love.  My home is Nashville.  It is the reason I am able to play music and do the things I love.  Of course I’ve always been proud of being a Nashvillian.  However, especially now, when I see all the love running through the city when people are in crisis.

The expected cost for repair and cleanup is estimated at over $1 billion.

Other relief efforts are in the works.  On June 16 Ke$sha, Nashville native and pop star, will hold a benefit concert for flood relief in Nashville at Limelight.

GAC, the cable network of country music, announced a telethon will be aired live on May 16 from Ryman Auditorium.  The country music stars that will be participating in the telethon include Rodney Atkins, Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum and Brad Paisley.

The Grammy Block Party, hosted by the Nashville Chapter of the Recording Academy, will take place at Nashville’s Owen Bradley Park on May 11.  The 12th annual party will be a fundraiser this year  for the MusiCares Nashville Floor Relief Fund.

Finally, the CMA Festival will be donating half of net proceeds to Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee from the 2010 festival held in June for flood relief.

Taylor Swift Has a Surprise for Auburn University

Posted by Justine Morgan On April - 28 - 2010

On April 26 Taylor Swift held an impromptu concert at Auburn University’s Hotel and Dixon Center.  Two Auburn students inspired the show.  According to a report in the Alabama Press-Register they launched a campaign on the internet to get Swift hugs.

The students, Ryan Leander and Michael Wekall, put up a video in January on YouTube announcing their quest of doing something big.  The plan of the duo’s caught on and inspired a network of Twitter and Facebook websites and pages, according to Opelika-Auburn news.

Apparently the concert on Monday surprised Leander and Wekall, who were thinking they were gathering together people for sing along karaoke.

As they started the sing along, the room full of AU students saw a big screen in front display the lyrics to the hit song by Swift “You Belong to Me.”

When the song was almost done, Swift came on the screen thanking students that took part in what she described as the largest karaoke public performance of the song.  Swift went to say repeatedly how she wished so much that she could have been there in person.

Then in the video she walked off camera and disappeared off the video screen but appeared in person.  The crowd of students started cheering Swift wildly as she stopped and gave Leander and Wekall their hugs.

Swift said to the student, I can’t believe you took this so far.  I’ve had a lot of fun with you guys.

Then she invited Leander and Wekall to sit in the front row at one of Swift’s shows.  Then she told the crowd she had her band with her.  They burst into applause and screamed as Swift’s band came on stage.  Then the band and Swift performed her hit single “Love Story.”  A Tweet from Swift said it was the best day.  Period.

Taylor Swift Takes Home Kids Choice Awards

Posted by Janice Bryant On March - 29 - 2010

The big winner at the March 28 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards was Taylor Swift. Taylor won Favorite Female Singer beating out Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Beyonce.

Taylor Swift’s song “You Belong With Me” won for Favorite Song, winning over “Paparazzi” from Lady Gaga, “Party in the USA” from Miley Cyrus, and “I Gotta Feeling” from the Black Eyed Peas.

However , Black Eyed Peas did receive an award. Nick viewers voted Fergie and company as their Favorite Music Group. They beat out Linkin Park, Jonas Brothers and Coldplay.

Jay-Z was voted as Favorite Male Singer, beating Ne-Yo, Sean Kingston and Mario.

Nick viewers also showed their liking of music with their Favorite Reality Show vote going to “American Idol,” beating out “Wipeout,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?”

Musical performances were also featured on the awards show, including Rihanna and Justin Bieber singing a medley that was accompanied by two gigantic robots.

Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards were held in Westwood, CA at the Pauley Pavilion at UCLA. The awards ceremony opened with Kevin James hosting a musical number. The star from “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” danced to “Get Down Tonight” from KC & the Sunshine Band along with Adam Sandler revised lyrics. He was dressed like an angel and swung from the ceiling. Lyrics came from pre-show advice received by James, which were “do a little dance, make a lot of noise, get slimed tonight.”

A memorable moment occurred during the presentation by Jonah Hill and Katy Perry for Miley Cyrus’ award for Favorite Movie Actress. As Perry was ripping a box open that supposedly contained the winner’s name, Nickelodeon traditional green slime shot her in the face. Although Perry probably knew she would be slimed- the dress she was wearing looked to be slime resistant- Perry did look genuinely surprised at how fast the goo hit her. While Cyrus was accepting the award, Perry was wiping slime off of her face. Perry in a kid pleasing move tried blowing slime out her nose without a tissue. Cyrus chimed in and said it’s a good thing that we both are wearing wigs.

Taylor Swift Bags Album of the Year Grammy Plus Three More

Posted by Janice Bryant On January - 31 - 2010

The biggest Grammy award of the night went to Taylor Swift. Her album “Fearless” won album of the year.

Swift said, we will tell this story over and over. How in 2010 we won album of the year.

Taylor Swift also won a Grammy for best country album. In all, she won four Grammys.

Beyonce won two more Grammys than Swift for a total of six. She won for song of the year as well as best female pop vocal performance. For song of the year she won as a co-writer on “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”

Her best female pop vocal performance award was for “Halo.” The singer appeared to be nervous as she accepted her award. She thanked her family and husband, telling him she loved him. The husband of Beyonce is Jay-Z, hip-hop star.

Kings of Leon, alternative rock band, upset the favorites Swift and Beyonce and won the Grammy award for record of the year for their “Use Somebody.”

This year Kings of Leon has now won three Grammys in four nominations. They all came from last year’s album “Only by the Night.” Last year they received three nominations and won one.

Earlier during the show “Use Somebody” lost to “Single Ladies” by Beyonce for the award song of the year.

Caleb Followill, lead singer of Kings of Leon said backstage, in terms of winning Grammys the best thing is this is the first time that our families get to see our success. We will get my mom wasted.

Other Grammy winner on Sunday night included Green Day, Zac Brown Band and Stephen Colbert.

The two oldest children of Michael Jackson went to the Grammy stage to accept the lifetime achievement award for their father.

Prince Michael, the 12 year old son of Michael Jackson said during the 52nd annual Grammy Award show, we are very proud to accept the award for our father.

He also gave thanks to God for watching over them for the last seven months. He also thanked their grandparents for their support and love.

In addition Prince Michael talked about the concern his father had for the earth’s environment.

Prince Michael said, in all of his songs the message was simple. It was love. We will continue spreading his message and also help the world.

He said, daddy we love you.

Eleven year old Paris spoke next. Daddy was going to be here. Last year Daddy was going to be performing here. Daddy, we love you.

Paris and Prince Michael, along with several of their cousins, were dressed in black suits and pants with red stripes along with red armbands.

Jackson’s children made their appearance after the rousing rendition of “Earth Song,” Michael Jackson’s song. There was a Jackson recording that was accompanied by a live performance from Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood, Usher and Celine Dion.

The best new artist Grammy was won by the Zac Brown Band. Lady Gaga, who many considered to be the biggest breakout act this year, was ruled to be ineligible for the award because last year she released a song and was also nominated for a Grammy.

Best comedy album was won by Stephen Colbert for his “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!” Kayne West, Rihanna and Jay-Z won the Grammy for Rap/sung collaboration.

The Grammy for best rock album went to Green Day.

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day said, now Kings of Leon and I will do shots together.

The Taylors Have Split

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 29 - 2009

It’s time to mothball your Team Swifter and Tay-Tay t shirts that were being printed out for this year. Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift have split up. Sources told People Magazine that they weren’t ever very serious to begin with.

According to a source who is close to Swift, it never really was a big deal. The media made a lot more of it then it ever was. All they did was go on a few dates. They realized it wasn’t going anywhere.

The perspective was corroborated by a Lautner source, adding that the two stars live almost a continent away from each other which was a big factor in their low key breakup.

The Lautner source told People, they became really great friends. They did got out on a few dates, but she is living in Nashville and he is living in L.A. They both have very busy schedules which did keep things from developing any further.

Swift and Lautner representatives declined to comment.

The day following a December 12 appearance on Saturday Night Live, where Lautner defended Swift’s honor, the 17 year old flew to Nashville in order to surprise Swift on her 20th birthday. After her birthday party, the two decided it made a lot more sense to remain just friends.

The two met while they were filming “Valentine’s Day,” an upcoming movie. Since October they have been spending some time together. Photographers first became aware of the relationship when they spotted Lautner in Chicago at two Swift concerts. Three weeks later the two teenage stars reunited at a Kings hockey game in Los Angeles.

Earlier this month the pair of down to earth teens was photographed getting friendly after dinner over frozen yogurt at a Los Angeles Benihaha. Lautner even met Swift’s parents. In October Andrea, Swift’s mother, joined the couple at Bistro Garden for a casual dinner in Studio City.

Swift Rumored as New Supergirl in Movie

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 28 - 2009

It’s a Grammy, it’s a bird, it’s Taylor Swift! It’s the teen blond bombshell with her million dollar smile and looking killer in red tall boots. What else would you need for making a successful Supergirl movie?

The widely acclaimed teen music sensation might end up wrapping herself up in blue spandex to play Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, also known as Supergirl for a remake of the original 1984 movie starring Helen Slater.

Industry insiders speaking to the Mirror UK said that several young stars had been mentioned to play the title role for the Supergirl movie along with a potential TV spin off, with Taylor Swift being at that very top of the list. Taylor is seen as someone with the right elements for being a very positive role model for young girls.

The conflict between Supergirl and Selena, a witch played by renowned actress Faye Dunaway, was at the center of the first Supergirl movie. Unfortunately even Dunaway’s acting wasn’t able to save the original movie from being a big bust. Instead of following with the traditional mythology along with kryptonite being the weakness of the super heroine’s weakness, the original movie focused more on witchcraft, which probably didn’t help the movie’s weak effects and plot. Even for 1984 they were too cheesy.

In the original movie the only really interesting part was a love triangle that was between the witch, Supergirl and the pair’s mutual love interest, Ethan, a groundskeeper who is given a love potion to fall for Selena.

The remake will hopefully avoid these weaknesses. Maybe they will be able to get Taylor Lautner for playing the role of Ethan. Or if he isn’t available, maybe Nicolas Cage. Right now he could sure use the money. He never seems to turn any script down.

Questions still abound. Will Taylor Swift end up playing the role of Supergirl, joining the legions of superhero movies bombarding the theaters? Will Taylor get the role? Who will end up playing her love interest?

Taylor is People’s Cover Girl of the 25 Most Intriguing People of 2009

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 27 - 2009

Taylor Swift is set to be featured on People magazine’s cover for “25 Most Intriguing People of 2009,” a year end special issue. Swift has won many different awards and this year has dominated the world of entertainment, from her Saturday Night Live appearance following the controversial situation with Kayne West, to her CMA outstanding performance, to her “Fearless” tour and sold out concerts.

Swift’s record breaking album also resulted in her being awarded as CMA’s Entertainer of the Year along with receiving 8 Grammy nomination. It’s been a tremendous year for the native of Tennessee.

Can it get any better than this?

Actually for the 20 year old star and country music sensation it does. For Swift this is like the icing on top of the cake. Swift explains in the issue of People her life experiences all into one world: happy. This feels like a dream that is ongoing, Taylor says.

Even if everything that is around you is changing, you still can stay being the same person. I want to think everyone that is out there is not waiting for me to just trip and fall or stumble from a club drunk.

Swift will be sharing the great honor along with other headline grabbers and memorable entertainers, including Sarah Palin, Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Michelle Obama. The issue came out on newsstands on December 18, 2009.

Swift will definitely be someone to watch at the Grammy Awards on January 31, 2009 held in Los Angeles. She will present an award at the show. Already Swift has three of the big nominations including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and for “Fearless” Album of the Year along with five additional categories.

Taylor Swift Takes Home Another Award — Billboard’s Artist of the Year

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 11 - 2009

By now Taylor Swift should be used to all of this. The most recent accolade to be showered onto the nineteen year old 2009 breakout star is the Artist of the Year award from Billboard Magazine. Swift also had the biggest albums, tours and singles for 2009.

The editors for Billboard wrote while announcing her award that saying 2009 was a remarkable year for Taylor Swift would be a huge understatement. Her award was based on the editorial review of album sales for November 2008 through November 2009 as well as song ranking for the Hot 100. Swift sold more albums than any other artist except Michael Jackson. Fearless 2009, Swift’s very first headlining tour, sold every show out within a matter of minutes. She also is the youngest female ever to win Entertainer of the Year from the Country Music Association. She has also set almost every chart record in existence. Most importantly, Swift has proven herself to be a timeless and graceful celebrity. She has handled with equal aplomb the “Saturday Night Live” hosting duties and a ranting Kayne West during the MTV Video Music awards.

Others following Swift include Pink, Nickel back, T.I., Britney Spears, Kayne West, Miley Cyrus, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Other top 20 artists include Lil Wayne, Kelly Clarkson, Flo Rida, Katy Perry and Kings of Leon.

The Black Eyed Peas, not surprisingly, with “Boom Boom Pow,” their hit song that was at number 1 for 12 amazing weeks, topped the list for Hot 100 Songs. Gaga had “Poker Face” (number 2) and “Just Dance” (number 3). The Black Eyed Peas latest hit “I Gotta Feeling” was at number 4. Rounding out the top ten were “Love Story” by Taylor Swift at number 5, “Right Round,” by Flo Rida at number 6, “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz at number 7, “Single Ladies” by Beyonce at number 8, “Heartless” by Kayne West at number 9 and “Gives You Hell” by the All American Rejects at number 10.

Other top 20 songs include “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift at number 11, “Dead and Gone” by T.I. at number 12, “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon at number 14, “Blame It” by Jamie Foxx at number 16 and “Live Your Life” by Rihanna at number 18.

The Top Albums list for the Billboard 200 was headed by Swift’s Fearless, not surprisingly. It was the best seller of the year, although the debut of Susan Boyle, I Dreamed A Dream, actually is coming on very strong and could wind up as the calendar year’s top seller.

Beyonce was right behind Swift with I Am Sasha Fierce as well as Dark Horse by Nickelback, the soundtrack for “Twilight” and soundtrack for the Hannah Montana movie. The top 10 also included Circus from Britney Spears, 808s & Heartbreak by Kayne West, The Fame by Lady Gaga, Relapse by Eminem and The E.N.D. From the Black Eyed Peas. No sales figures were announced by Billboard for any of these categories. They are due to be released by Nielsen SoundScan during the first week in January.

Other top 20 albums include Only by the Night by Kings of Leon at number 11, The Blueprint 3 by Jay-Z at number 12, David Cook’s debut album at number 13, Funhouse by Pink at number 16 and No Line on the Horizon by U2 at number 18.

The biggest tour of year was the gigantic stadium trek of U2. The tour grossed over $311 million with over 3 million fans at 44 shows that were sold out. At number 2 was Madonna’s tour with a gross of $222 million with an audience of 2.1 million and 46 sold out shows. At number three was Bruce Springsteen along with his E Street Band, who top the tours list on a regular basis. The 72 show tour gross $156 million playing in front of 1.7 million fans with 42 sold out shows.

Another veteran group AC/DC came in at number 4 with their 76 tour dates with 1.5 million concert goers and gross of $135 million. The only performer that is considered contemporary among the top 5 is pink whose Funhouse acrobatic tour gross over $103 million in front of 1.5 million fans and 131 shows. The circus themed world tour of Britney Spears came in at number 7 and gross $95 million with 61 sell outs out of 70 shows in front of almost 1.1 million fans.

Other tours in the top 20 include Coldplay at number 10 with an $84 million gross, 1.2 million attendance and 66 shows. Metallica was number 11 with a gross of $77 million, 1.1 million attendance and 66 shows. The Jonas Brothers were number 12 with a gross of $73 million, 1 million attendance and 62 shows. Beyonce was number 15 with a $57 million gross, attendance of 697,000 and 57 shows.

In other charts from the end of the year. The hottest radio song of the year was “Love Story,” by Taylor Swift. She also had the number 2 song “You Belong With Me.” The list for Hot Digital Songs was topped by The Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow.” The Hot Ringtones Artist was T.I. The crown for Hot Master Ringtones went to Soulja Boy’s Tell’em and Hot Master Ringtones went to “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.” The “Twilight” soundtrack was the Top Digital Album.
