The Taylors Have Split

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 29 - 2009

It’s time to mothball your Team Swifter and Tay-Tay t shirts that were being printed out for this year. Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift have split up. Sources told People Magazine that they weren’t ever very serious to begin with.

According to a source who is close to Swift, it never really was a big deal. The media made a lot more of it then it ever was. All they did was go on a few dates. They realized it wasn’t going anywhere.

The perspective was corroborated by a Lautner source, adding that the two stars live almost a continent away from each other which was a big factor in their low key breakup.

The Lautner source told People, they became really great friends. They did got out on a few dates, but she is living in Nashville and he is living in L.A. They both have very busy schedules which did keep things from developing any further.

Swift and Lautner representatives declined to comment.

The day following a December 12 appearance on Saturday Night Live, where Lautner defended Swift’s honor, the 17 year old flew to Nashville in order to surprise Swift on her 20th birthday. After her birthday party, the two decided it made a lot more sense to remain just friends.

The two met while they were filming “Valentine’s Day,” an upcoming movie. Since October they have been spending some time together. Photographers first became aware of the relationship when they spotted Lautner in Chicago at two Swift concerts. Three weeks later the two teenage stars reunited at a Kings hockey game in Los Angeles.

Earlier this month the pair of down to earth teens was photographed getting friendly after dinner over frozen yogurt at a Los Angeles Benihaha. Lautner even met Swift’s parents. In October Andrea, Swift’s mother, joined the couple at Bistro Garden for a casual dinner in Studio City.

Swift Rumored as New Supergirl in Movie

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 28 - 2009

It’s a Grammy, it’s a bird, it’s Taylor Swift! It’s the teen blond bombshell with her million dollar smile and looking killer in red tall boots. What else would you need for making a successful Supergirl movie?

The widely acclaimed teen music sensation might end up wrapping herself up in blue spandex to play Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, also known as Supergirl for a remake of the original 1984 movie starring Helen Slater.

Industry insiders speaking to the Mirror UK said that several young stars had been mentioned to play the title role for the Supergirl movie along with a potential TV spin off, with Taylor Swift being at that very top of the list. Taylor is seen as someone with the right elements for being a very positive role model for young girls.

The conflict between Supergirl and Selena, a witch played by renowned actress Faye Dunaway, was at the center of the first Supergirl movie. Unfortunately even Dunaway’s acting wasn’t able to save the original movie from being a big bust. Instead of following with the traditional mythology along with kryptonite being the weakness of the super heroine’s weakness, the original movie focused more on witchcraft, which probably didn’t help the movie’s weak effects and plot. Even for 1984 they were too cheesy.

In the original movie the only really interesting part was a love triangle that was between the witch, Supergirl and the pair’s mutual love interest, Ethan, a groundskeeper who is given a love potion to fall for Selena.

The remake will hopefully avoid these weaknesses. Maybe they will be able to get Taylor Lautner for playing the role of Ethan. Or if he isn’t available, maybe Nicolas Cage. Right now he could sure use the money. He never seems to turn any script down.

Questions still abound. Will Taylor Swift end up playing the role of Supergirl, joining the legions of superhero movies bombarding the theaters? Will Taylor get the role? Who will end up playing her love interest?

Taylor is People’s Cover Girl of the 25 Most Intriguing People of 2009

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 27 - 2009

Taylor Swift is set to be featured on People magazine’s cover for “25 Most Intriguing People of 2009,” a year end special issue. Swift has won many different awards and this year has dominated the world of entertainment, from her Saturday Night Live appearance following the controversial situation with Kayne West, to her CMA outstanding performance, to her “Fearless” tour and sold out concerts.

Swift’s record breaking album also resulted in her being awarded as CMA’s Entertainer of the Year along with receiving 8 Grammy nomination. It’s been a tremendous year for the native of Tennessee.

Can it get any better than this?

Actually for the 20 year old star and country music sensation it does. For Swift this is like the icing on top of the cake. Swift explains in the issue of People her life experiences all into one world: happy. This feels like a dream that is ongoing, Taylor says.

Even if everything that is around you is changing, you still can stay being the same person. I want to think everyone that is out there is not waiting for me to just trip and fall or stumble from a club drunk.

Swift will be sharing the great honor along with other headline grabbers and memorable entertainers, including Sarah Palin, Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and Michelle Obama. The issue came out on newsstands on December 18, 2009.

Swift will definitely be someone to watch at the Grammy Awards on January 31, 2009 held in Los Angeles. She will present an award at the show. Already Swift has three of the big nominations including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and for “Fearless” Album of the Year along with five additional categories.

Taylor Swift Takes Home Another Award — Billboard’s Artist of the Year

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 11 - 2009

By now Taylor Swift should be used to all of this. The most recent accolade to be showered onto the nineteen year old 2009 breakout star is the Artist of the Year award from Billboard Magazine. Swift also had the biggest albums, tours and singles for 2009.

The editors for Billboard wrote while announcing her award that saying 2009 was a remarkable year for Taylor Swift would be a huge understatement. Her award was based on the editorial review of album sales for November 2008 through November 2009 as well as song ranking for the Hot 100. Swift sold more albums than any other artist except Michael Jackson. Fearless 2009, Swift’s very first headlining tour, sold every show out within a matter of minutes. She also is the youngest female ever to win Entertainer of the Year from the Country Music Association. She has also set almost every chart record in existence. Most importantly, Swift has proven herself to be a timeless and graceful celebrity. She has handled with equal aplomb the “Saturday Night Live” hosting duties and a ranting Kayne West during the MTV Video Music awards.

Others following Swift include Pink, Nickel back, T.I., Britney Spears, Kayne West, Miley Cyrus, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Other top 20 artists include Lil Wayne, Kelly Clarkson, Flo Rida, Katy Perry and Kings of Leon.

The Black Eyed Peas, not surprisingly, with “Boom Boom Pow,” their hit song that was at number 1 for 12 amazing weeks, topped the list for Hot 100 Songs. Gaga had “Poker Face” (number 2) and “Just Dance” (number 3). The Black Eyed Peas latest hit “I Gotta Feeling” was at number 4. Rounding out the top ten were “Love Story” by Taylor Swift at number 5, “Right Round,” by Flo Rida at number 6, “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz at number 7, “Single Ladies” by Beyonce at number 8, “Heartless” by Kayne West at number 9 and “Gives You Hell” by the All American Rejects at number 10.

Other top 20 songs include “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift at number 11, “Dead and Gone” by T.I. at number 12, “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon at number 14, “Blame It” by Jamie Foxx at number 16 and “Live Your Life” by Rihanna at number 18.

The Top Albums list for the Billboard 200 was headed by Swift’s Fearless, not surprisingly. It was the best seller of the year, although the debut of Susan Boyle, I Dreamed A Dream, actually is coming on very strong and could wind up as the calendar year’s top seller.

Beyonce was right behind Swift with I Am Sasha Fierce as well as Dark Horse by Nickelback, the soundtrack for “Twilight” and soundtrack for the Hannah Montana movie. The top 10 also included Circus from Britney Spears, 808s & Heartbreak by Kayne West, The Fame by Lady Gaga, Relapse by Eminem and The E.N.D. From the Black Eyed Peas. No sales figures were announced by Billboard for any of these categories. They are due to be released by Nielsen SoundScan during the first week in January.

Other top 20 albums include Only by the Night by Kings of Leon at number 11, The Blueprint 3 by Jay-Z at number 12, David Cook’s debut album at number 13, Funhouse by Pink at number 16 and No Line on the Horizon by U2 at number 18.

The biggest tour of year was the gigantic stadium trek of U2. The tour grossed over $311 million with over 3 million fans at 44 shows that were sold out. At number 2 was Madonna’s tour with a gross of $222 million with an audience of 2.1 million and 46 sold out shows. At number three was Bruce Springsteen along with his E Street Band, who top the tours list on a regular basis. The 72 show tour gross $156 million playing in front of 1.7 million fans with 42 sold out shows.

Another veteran group AC/DC came in at number 4 with their 76 tour dates with 1.5 million concert goers and gross of $135 million. The only performer that is considered contemporary among the top 5 is pink whose Funhouse acrobatic tour gross over $103 million in front of 1.5 million fans and 131 shows. The circus themed world tour of Britney Spears came in at number 7 and gross $95 million with 61 sell outs out of 70 shows in front of almost 1.1 million fans.

Other tours in the top 20 include Coldplay at number 10 with an $84 million gross, 1.2 million attendance and 66 shows. Metallica was number 11 with a gross of $77 million, 1.1 million attendance and 66 shows. The Jonas Brothers were number 12 with a gross of $73 million, 1 million attendance and 62 shows. Beyonce was number 15 with a $57 million gross, attendance of 697,000 and 57 shows.

In other charts from the end of the year. The hottest radio song of the year was “Love Story,” by Taylor Swift. She also had the number 2 song “You Belong With Me.” The list for Hot Digital Songs was topped by The Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow.” The Hot Ringtones Artist was T.I. The crown for Hot Master Ringtones went to Soulja Boy’s Tell’em and Hot Master Ringtones went to “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.” The “Twilight” soundtrack was the Top Digital Album.

Taylor Swift Sells Out Gillette Stadium in Minutes

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 5 - 2009

Country music fans wanting to get tickets to see Taylor Swift in Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium snatched up all the tickets as of 2 pm on December 5, 2009. Swift, who is the CMA’s 2009 Entertainer of the Year, will be performing at Gillette Stadium, the home of the NFL’s New England Patriots, June 4, 2010. Country superstar and former American Idol winner Kellie Pickler will perform with Taylor Swift.

In a call into Ticketmaster.com, official seller for Taylor Swift’s Gillette Stadium concert to check on ticket availability for the Taylor Swift show, the availability changed from single tickets only being available to no more tickets available. The concerts of Taylor Swift have had a tendency of selling out within 15 minutes, so only those who were able to act fast were able to buy tickets to see Swift at Gillette Stadium in concert on her Fearless Tour.

Swift will be following the same path as other CMA Entertainers of the Year who have performed at Gillette Stadium such as Kenny Chesney. According to Ticketmaster, tickets for Swift’s Gillette Stadium concert sold for $74.75, $59.75 and $34.75, along with a convenience charge and a limit of six tickets per household.

Selling out a concert for country music in New England is surprising in some ways. After all New Englanders are as faithful to their classic rock as they are to their sports teams. However, a talented and young artist such as Taylor Swift has been able to prove that crossover is not only possible but also sustainable. Unlike K.D. Lang, one of Swift’s country predecessors who was only able to crossover with a single pop hit, the appeal of Taylor Swift isn’t limited strictly to fans of country music.

The nineteen year old Swift so far has managed to keep up an image that is squeaky clean, unlike some other young pop queens like Adrienne Bailon and Miley Cyrus.

Currently there has been no second date announced for a concert at Gillette Stadium. The only date that is currently not sold out left on Swift’s concert tour is her April 29, 2009 concert in Lexington, Kentucky. Tickets will go on sale for the concert on December 11, 2009. Her concert in Baton Rouge, LA on May 20, 2009 still has tickets available.

Taylor Swift Bikini Video Racing Across the Web

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 4 - 2009

The new music video of Taylor Swift, which features the country music star in a black bikini that is barely there, is taking YouTube by storm.

In a video which is family friendly, the nineteen year old singing sensation is shown with friends on the beach, hanging out in the car and kitchen and enjoying the great outdoors. Since being posted on Sunday, the video has accumulated over 7.5 million views.

As the amateur footage of almost four minutes unfolds, the bonus track “I’m Only Me When I’m with You” from Swift’s album is heard playing in the background.

Kellie Picker, former American Idol contestant, appears as part of the crew of Swift’s girlfriends.

Extended footage of Swift, who is typically dressed very conservatively, showing off her hot bikini body while jet skiing, on the beach, and getting soaked from a waterfall has hit the web as well.

On Wednesday the stage was set by Swift in a showdown for Grammys with the singer Beyonce. Beyonce earned ten Grammy nominations while Swift earned eight.

Taylor Swift Snags 8 Grammy Nominations

Posted by Janice Bryant On December - 3 - 2009

When the Grammy Award candidates were announced on December 2 for their 52nd Annual Awards show during a music special televised live from Los Angeles at Club Nokia, Taylor Swift received eight Grammy Award nominations. Only Beyonce had more with her ten nominations.

What was significant was that Swift was nominated in three three different top categories that represent different musical genres.

Swift’s latest album, Fearless, has been nominated as Overall Album of Year. The category also includes Big Whiskey & the Groogux King by the Dave Matthews Band, The Fame by Lady Gaga, The E.N.D. By Black Eyed Peas and I Am… Sasha Fierce by Beyonce.

“You Belong With Me,” a track from the Fearless album, has been nominated for Record of Year, and is going up against “Halo” by Beyonce, “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, and “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon.

“You Belong With Me,” written by Swift along with Liz Rose, has been nominated for Song of Year, along with “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell, “Single Ladies” by Beyonce and “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon.

In addition, Swift’s album Fearless has been nominated as Best Country Album, while “You Belong With Me” has been nominated for Best Pop Female Performance. Swift and Rose’s “White Horse,” has been nominated as Best Country Song. The album track also earned a nomination for Swift for Best Female Vocal Performance. “Breathe,” another track from Swift’s Fearless album also earned a nomination for Swift and Colbie Caillat in the category Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

After realizing that she had earned eight nominations Swift said, I was freaking out. I started to jump up and down and freak out, Swift said when speaking to The Associated Press. Honestly I never could have predicted getting eight nominations. I am blown away, ecstatic and very thankful.

Swift added, it’s the ultimate honor for the Grammys to recognize me. All that I know is when I write in my journal about this tonight it’s going to be all in capital letters as well as underlined four times with lots of exclamation points. I never imagined I would get to write in my journal about this.

When asked about the possibility of winning her very first Grammy Award, Swift replied, the thought of winning is something you absolutely daydream about.

The only country singers that were featured in the telecast were Dwight Yoakam and Sugarland. The only country category announced on the air that night was Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Yoakam announced the nominees, which included “It Happens,” by Sugarland, “Cowgirls Don’t Cry,” by Brooks & Dunn, “I Run to You,” by Lady Antebellum, “Here Comes Goodbye,” from the group Rascal Flatts and “Chicken Fried,” by the Zac Brown Band.

Sugarland performed a holiday song “Coming Home” from their album Gold and Green in a segment of the show outside of Club Nokia.

When the telecast’s host LL Cool J asked Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland about their nomination, Jennifer Nettles replied that the biggest night of all in music was the Grammys. When we win country music awards it is a very big honor, but to be nominated for Grammys- that is nice.

Although Swift didn’t attend the Grammy nominations concert, she did still manage to garner a lot of attention. The opening performance by LL Cool J mentioned her. It’s also clear that there is at least one legend of music that has not forgotten Kayne West interrupting Swift’s acceptance speech during MTV’s Video Music Awards.

Ringo Star and Smokey Robinson announced Swift’s “You Belong With Me,” had been nominated as Record of the Year. Robinson joked and said, Taylor don’t worry, Kayne West isn’t here.

The Grammy Awards 52nd annual show will take place in Los Angeles at Staples Center on January 31.
